Best knot, steel to rope halyard??

I'm replacing the rope portion of my main halyard and I was wondering if anyone knows the best knot to use to attach the rope to the loop in the steel cable?

Why not go all line and get rid of the wire?

A rope to wire splice is the right solution.
I'd recommend that you switch to all rope halyards (dyneema).

I don't have dyneema I just have some 3/8 sta set. I'm not going to splice to wire to it, that's overly complex and the wire already has a loop put in it at the end that a rope was tied through.

I was kinda thinking about trying to replace it with all rope but I'm worried the pulley up top may not be large enough or that it will get stuck trying to pull those wire loops through.

Would be nice to get rid of that wire though, god I hate the noise they make in the wind!!!

idk , just want to tie a knot right now though, can anyone recommend which knot I should use?

Arch, if it's not inside the mast, the boland (bowline) knot may work, I'd whip or sew the free end, as the knot may slip on StaSet.

Thanks, boland/bowline also good for reattaching the shackles?

It's not inside the mast it's outside. It's just whipped with duct tape and I melted the end. What do you mean "sew the free end"?

buntline hitch. will snug up tight, no loop like bowline. Harder to untie, but that shouldn't be a problem.

Eye splice it with a stainless thimble; that way the wire will not chafe through the rope and the rope will retain nearly 100% of it's breaking strength.
