Classic margarita:
1 part fresh squeezed lime juice
2 parts triple sec (or cointreau if you're feeling flush)
4 parts good tequila

Shake over ice, strain into glass (rimmed with salt if you're into that, but I prefer it without as no need to cover the flavours as you do with a pre-mix crap)

Interesting that you say Laphraoig is very peaty...I don't remember it as such but it was a few years back. Then again maybe I was mistaken and it wasn't Laph.

For mixing rum Mt Gay is fine by me though it never drink it straight. Not much into Cola so Cuba Libre is out for me.

Yep, but like I said, I'm one of those "I tastes pretty good to me" kinda guys, and the only liquor I care to drink straight is scotch or bourbon. The rest of it is all for mixed drinks.

Maybe peaty isn't the right word but it is the one that comes to mind thinking of Laph. I think of it as a scotch to work up to. I feel like if you offered one to a newbie they might never drink scotch again, where as something like Glenlivet, 'fiddich, or Glen Moray may peak their interest.

I don't really love Vodka but will drink it and tequila is fine so long as its in a margarita. About the only thing I can think of that I really dislike is Crown Royal. Can't stand it for some reason.

Here is another great summer drink - the hotter the day the better it tastes because it is not heavy.

Cinzano (pronounced Chinzano in Italia) and tonic. Cinzano (Rosso) is a sweet, red vermuth wine the Italians mix half and half with tonic water, served over ice, if a slice of lemon or lime is available, that too, but not required. I think you will want to drink more than one of these.
Cinzano is available in liquor stores and sometimes even grocery stores in MD & VA

Agree! But we found some years ago that when mixed with tonic - you can get away without the expense of Bombay. Gilby's has worked almost as well, or maybe it's just... after that 1st one ;-)
