Exclamation Sailing on oil?

I just had to bring it up! Sadly, it could possibly be something necessary for the gulf sailors.

[joke sarcasm mode] you mean the oil does not let you sail faster as its slipperier [/close joke sarcasm mode]

i would assume that unless you are going thru a real dense patch that it would not make much difference. i could see it getting in to a heat exchanger and maybe coating it so its was a little less effective. but heck we put oil down our toilets to lube them just different oil

It smells like crap, for one thing. That oil spray flying off the bow might be just a tad unpleasant.

seems like i remember reading somewhere that pouring oil over board during a storm has a moderating effect on rough seas,i always wondered how it would be possibe to have that much oil aboard hmmmm,i guess bp has the answer

You can't sail...They closed all the waters to recreational boating..So you pay marina fees and in addition you pay to have your boat pulled then beside your Marina fee's you pay 15 bucks a day EXTRA to keep it on the hard...

Just wait till BP gets my bill and bills from millions of boats wasting on the Gulf Coast....Like Exxon we figure to collect in 22 years by then it can pay for my funeral as I will be either too old to sail or dead....

sadly it is thick enough to clog intakes and exchangers...it doesn't thinly coat this, it smothers it...hard on pumps and seals...unless nitrile

rough on finishes and fabric

Insails, had not thought about what the "charges" of being stuck there are...those folks at BP should be writing the checks..but I guess they are too busy writing dividend checks to stock holders, sad, truly sad...

I an afraid they are on my list with GM, AIG, Chrysler..won't buy until they make those stockholders they screwed over whole again...

Good Q though Denise,

Kd..we all know we need oil until we find alternative energy that actually works.. But we do expect responsibility from a company that spends 100 million dollars on advertising during major "Sports Events" to tell us how "Green" they are yet wont spend 500k on a part that would have prevented this.. We also expect Oil Companies to be more responsible for who they hire so as not to put someone in charge who puts greed and butt kissing his boss above the safty of his crew and our enviroment...The boss on the rig knew it was not right and continued hoping the rewards would get him famous with BP and a promotion...To me the man is nothing more than a murderer . 11 people died and the gulf is screwed up all over a "Brown Noser"

Thats sad and he should be arrested for Murder .. What they did was criminal
