Question about a Catalina 30 mod I'm considering

Hello!

I have a 1976 Catalina 30 on which I'd like to make a small change. I'm curious if anyone has ever made the change I'd like to do (or something similar) and what concerns you may have with the change.

**Let me prep this by saying that my sailing lingo isn't quite up to par...still learning. So I'll try to explain as best I can**

In the quarter berth, on the port side, there is a wooden bulkhead. On the other side of the wood is the large lazarette accessible from the cockpit. Yesterday I removed the wood bulkhead so that I can refinish it and get better access to the lazarette in order to clean it out.

Now that its opened up, I kind of like having access to that storage area from the quarter berth. The wood doesn't appear to serve any support or waterproofing purposes. It basically just divides the quarter berth and lazarette.

My thoughts were to search for some sort of strong but elastic netting to divide the two areas instead of wood.

Has anyone seen this done before???
