Little help?

I don't know if this is the correct spot to post this thread as I just registered tonight.


But I figured I'd register and ask some boating vets who might know.

I have an old MFG Gypsy 15 I got off of a neighbor a few years ago that I've been wanting to work on ever since I've had it. But do to lack of a job and funds it'll never happen.

So, a day or so ago when I came back home from doing some errands my mom told me the kid next door came over and asked her if I would be interested in selling it.

Since then I've been trying to find info as to the year of it all over the net and couldn't find anything. I read the plate that has the serial number and all it shows is the model of the boat, its weight and that it originally came with an 85hp motor.

But the previous owner seems to have switched it and put the current engine in it which is a 1971 Evinrude Ski Twin 40.

My mom found that MFG made the boat up until 84. Weather or not that's true is another thing since I found one for sale on another site that looks like mine which was an 89 except it had different decals.

It was in the same condition as mine but they wanted more for theirs than I do for mine.

But I need to find the year of mine or the kid who wants it might have some trouble registering it if it's newer than 70's since there's no title to it.

I also did the HIN trick like I read on another boating site where you could find the year that way. But they showed the numbers went from 12-16.

But there's only 6 on mine since it was registered in Vermont so that trick won't work.

Any old school boaters have any help to offer?
