My Dad, brother and I took a quick overnight trip out to Cypress Island, in the San Juans, a couple weekends ago (June 5 and 6th). We left the slip in Bellingham around noon on Saturday into decent wind and beautiful weather. Cypress Island is a special place for us because we lived here until I was about 4, and my dad lived and worked there for 15 years. Do to our 3 busy schedules, this was the longest trip we could pull right now.
This was also the first major shakedown cruise for the SJ 24 I purchased last November. I've done quite a bit of work on her over the winter, so it was great to finally get out of the bay. She did great, with exception to my throttle cable breaking - which was temporarily fixed with a piece of twine. The new electrical worked great, it was nice listening to music the whole way there without having to worry.
Nothing overly exciting to share, but we did luck out on the weather for sure. Anyway, here's some pics:
Finally out of Bellingham Bay, approaching Eliza Island
West side of Lummi Island
Eagle Harbor on Cypress in the background, Cone Islands in the foreground
Another shot of one of the Cone Islands. Pelican Beach is on the left, with Orcas Island in the background.
Wanted to spend the night in Eagle Harbor, but there were 20+ boats. Got the last mooring buoy at Cypress Head.
The south end across the tumbolo at Cypress Head. Boat is directly behind me in this picture. Rowed in, cooked dinner and had a fire.
Caught an awesome sunset over some cold beers.
Spent the night on the boat sharing some whiskey and good conversation. Woke up to RAIN!
Left for Bellingham around 10:30, motored back.
Back in her slip...waiting for some better weather!
Sorry for so many pics, hope you guys enjoy.
