James Rosborough's Designs

I'm very interested in the elder Rosborough's boats, but I haven't been able to find a resource that comprehensively lists the different models. It seems that one his more popular shapes was called the "privateer" as I've seen a few of these around the interwebs, but I've also seen allusions to some other designs, of which I assume this is one.

About Formidable...

I have a vague understanding that the Privateers could be ordered rigged as a ketch, schooner, or possibly a brigantine, so I would probably count those variants as the same boat. As I don't have a realistic prospect of buying one of these boats or the plans thereof, I'm a bit hesitant to bother the company about it. So do any of you guys happen to have a list of J. Rosborough's different boats?

Jacob

He wrote a book about his career building and selling boats. Not much technical detail, he was a character. I think if his company is still in business they would be happy to answer inquiries.

Thanks. I'll check out his book, which should be interesting no matter what. Rosborough's son is in business, although he builds fiberglass or steel powerboats. I hear he has all his father's plans though.

I owned a 1972 gaff topsail ketch rigged Privateer for several years. In the brochure provided by Rosborough, there were numerous other designs from a 55 footer down to a 28. They all had very similar lines . I spoke with Doug [James] a couple of years ago . You may still be able to get a copy of this brochure. I highly recommend his book, "Confessions of a Boatbuilder". Feel free to contact me if you have questions , Scott www.seaworthysolutions.net
