About that banner watch ad (above)!

Would most sailors wear a Chanel watch?

I'd love to have been at that marketing meeting! "Let's position this 4000 Chanel watch at sailnet." Maybe they did it at Sailing Anarchy too! They're really buying into a lot of myths and don't know their market at all! HAHA

I also had to laugh at that ad. I could just imagine the pitch. "Let's all go saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaailing". Or how about "Real men wear Chanel". Or even "Once we sell the sailing watch, these guys are really going to want our handbags"

LOL

Assumptions are bad.

Did it ever occur to you GUYS, that not all sailors are GUYS? I am not saying that the Chanel watch ad is a well placed one, but not all ads are specific to the website. The goal is to get exposure. So the next time your wife says she likes Chanel, you may think about the watch, having seen it on Sailnet.

It's not like you would normally check out Cosmopolitan, Opra, Allure, etc. for these things.

So where is the "yachtie" sailing forum that boasts the crowd for whom this ad would make sense? I say we do a drive by if it's out there.

So, no one actually clicked on the ad? Because I did, out of curiosity, and it's for their new men's series that is WR to 300meters, has no batteries and has a time bezel etc., etc. Not my cup of tea, but we shouldnt jump to conclusions just because it's Chanel. Look at how many men now use Luis Vuitton stuff....another traditionally female brand not too long ago.

Personally, I think some of these "high end" manufacturers are getting desperate and are expanding their brands to cover their butts. Who here wants to bet good money that these new watches are actually sub-contracted out to someone like Tag heuer or some such thing?

Adblock Plus, available for free download, with a little tweaking means no more irritating ads. I like it. The pages load faster without the ads also.

Actually, I was unable to see where this is defined as a Men's watch. There are two diameters of bezels, which would indicate more of a Men's style and a Women's style.

My apologies to my earlier post, as this may appeal to both sexes. However, I have never thought of Chanel as a "sailing" brand, and as such, feel the Chanel brand as relating to sailing is more of a "poser" brand.

But to each their own.

Eric
