I read the article on another forum and think what happened was awful but glad the man is alive.

When I read your subject header I anticipated a thread about sailing to windward in the Caribbean however.

That's an awful thing to happen... we've never felt unsafe or threatened in any of the French Islands we've been to. This is something one might be led to watch out for in St Vincent maybe, by recent reports....

There should be a correction appearing from Latitudes as it appears the incident took place in St Maarten not Martinique.
