BC Sailors for Courtney

This is a heads-up to any BC sailors here on Sailnet that may wish to take part in the Saturday, Aug 28th "Sail with Courtney" event. This is in honour of a brave young woman who lost her battle with breast cancer a little over a year ago. Through the connections on SN and A-S this is looking to be a continental event.

Event burgees are available here:

Sail With Courtney :: Store

More information and the story here:

Courtney's story

What I envision is meeting off the QC buoy near Stanley Park and sail a lap of English Bay as a flotilla in honour of Courtney and other cancer victims, survivors, and sufferers. Depending on participation, perhaps a raft up in False Creek afterwards for a meet and greet. Pictures encouraged, to be posted to the sites...

We will be cruising and away between July 12 and Aug 20, but I'll update this thread when we return to remind everyone. We'll have room for a few extra bodies if you're boatless or your boat is not moored in the Lower Mainland.

So chime in here if you're interested so we can get an idea of the scope of our contribution to this event.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

It's the message not the spelling that would have mattered to Courtney!

I know that Mike...but I just think it is more respectful of your lovely daughter to spell her name right.

Bump... We're back from our summer cruise and plan to head out in Courtney's honour on Saturday. Plans remain as described in the OP above.

I'm without crew, so if anyone in the Vancouver area would like to join me send be a PM and we'll set it up. I'll do this myself if needs be, but there should be enough of us around here to get at least a handful of boats out there.

That's for this Saturday, Aug 28, rendezvous at the Cardinal Bouy off Stanley Park at 1100 hrs. If you've not gotten your Courtney flag come anyway.

jrd22 will become famous soon enough
Hope you have a good turn out Ron. We are currently at Plumper Cove (sorry it didn't work out to get together, maybe in Sept?), hopefully home Sunday to get everything together for our Sail with Courtney. Sounds like we are going to have several boats, and three generations of my family!
