BP paying folks to go look for oil?

I heard a story a couple of days ago from a colleague. She said she has a friend who's a fisherman in Mobile, who has been hired by BP to motor around every day looking for oil and logging where he sees it.

Anyone heard of this? Business is light. I wouldn't mind being paid to go deepwater sailing this summer.

A google search just turned up stories about fisherman getting sick from oil slicks, which doesn't sound like the same deal.

Aha, finally found it:

Gulf of Mexico response | Vessels of Opportunity | BP

Looks like only commercial vessels are allowed in the program, and they're only using aircraft for surveillance.
