We had a close encounter (~10') with a similar-sized sperm whale a couple hundred miles north of St Thomas last November. We were on a T-bone collision course - we were on starboard and the whale curved just astern of us. Glad s(he) decided to go around the stern rather than over us. We certainly were far too excited to find the camera until it was much too late.
