First boat

Well, I'm in. I just bought my first sailboat, and I'm itching to dive into the sailing/cruising lifestyle. It's small, old, and it needs some cleaning, but it's a real live sailboat and it's MINE! It's in good shape, everything seems to be in working order, even the motor. I've even got a name for it already. It was Christened by a friend of mine as - drum roll please . . . Spritzer.

It's a 1968 Coronado 25. It even has a sail cover! I've found what those cost. Got it at a great price, too. $400. It cost me a grand to get it to it's home, but hey, cest' le vie (my French ?).

Anyway, I have it now, and I'm headed to the marina where it's moored for a more detailed lookover this week.

I don't sail. I want to, and as far as previous experience goes, I've had a full - no skimping on time, here - 30 minutes on the tiller. It was on a 21ft clipper. No joke, one big fat complete half hour. 10 minutes one time, and at another time - again, a full 20 minutes straight, with the wind bouncing merrily off of my lovely cheeks. I kept getting odd looks so I turned around and pulled my shorts up.

Sorry.

Anyway again, I am no longer just a salivating orphan holding his little hands out saying, More please, sir. Nope, no Sir-ee. Not for this soon to-be-sailor. I'm finally in the club!

Well, that's all for now. So as they say in Slovinia, Ahoyavitch.

Welcome to the wonderful world of sailling. Hopefully you can find someone to give you a couple of (perhaps free) lessons and some coaching. I would also suggest that you find yourself a good basic sailing book and read and re-read it before leaving the dock.

Good luck,
Jeff

Congratulations and like everybody else will say find some one to take you out for the first time or two. This sailing lark is not rocket science but it can be a bummer to crash into someone elses boat then go aground on your first time out.
