As a rally organizer, I can tell you that I for one do not make any money doing it. So far I've been underwater each of the first three years we've run our event. I guess it depends on what services the event provides, but between weather routing, Gulf Stream routing, Internet tracking transponders, parties, insurance, inspections, etc., it costs a lot more than you might think to put these things together, not to mention the amount of time it takes. With few exceptions, rally organizers do it because they enjoy it, not to get rich.
