Smile 1977 Chrysler 26

Ok, the damage has already been done!(so please dont tell me any horror stories about it!!) I bought this boat! Its a 1977 Chrysler 26! the boat needs minor interior work,(almost done), general cleaning(almost done),some new rigging, and the volvo penta md5b probably needs to be yanked and rebuilt. when all this is done, i believe i will have a pretty nice boat! What I need from all of you veterans out there, is some, (any), useful info on this boat and motor that might help me out as I am, as my username implies, new to this! I dont have a ton of info on this boat so anything you guys can offer will be greatly appreciated! Thanks, and fair winds!

CalebD will become famous soon enough
Quite a number of other Chrysler 26s listed here: Chrysler 26 Sailboat Photo Gallery
have outboards mounted on the transom.
A problem with Volvo engines can be locating spare parts. I wish you luck with your md5b.
What are your intended sailing grounds?

Thanks for the reply! I am looking forward to getting this old lady back in the water! I live in Arizona so unfortuneatly, most of her new life will probably be on lake pleasant, however, once I am a little more familiar with her, i fully intend to make some trips to sandiego and sail her to catalina island and various other destinations along the coast of california. Ive got my work cut out for me, but im not in a big hurry, so thats ok!

congrats, I think you will enjoy the boat. There is a Chrysler 26's on the lake I sail on, and it was one of the models I was looking for when I bought my boat. It seems to be a bit heavier than mine, and needs a little more wind, which can be an issue with the mid-west summers, but all around I say that are nice boats. That being said, here is a web site that might help you out Chrysler Sailing Association Web Site, it has manuals and specs, how-to section and an owners exchange. Looks like it may be dated, but still hope you can find some information. One other site as well, Chrysler Sailors Home Page, good luck with the boat and enjoy

Having an outboard on our Chrysler C-26 seems to work out very well, if the inboard works out to be costly, you might want to go that way.

We've gone thru alot with our's and couldn't be happier with the space and its abilities.

I have a MD5 and can get parts thru Volvo Penta. They have an outstanding site where you can down load manuals for free - they want $50 for them on line. Unless you bust the block, they probably can get you the parts. Just Google Volvo Penta Global - first hit!
