Bravo Zulu

An old Navy term meaning "great job".

Yesterday, I failed to properly secure the tack line for my asymmetric spin. It slipped and Let's just say that a mess ensued as I lowered the sail to regain control of it. The sheet ended up in the water and fouled the prop and the rudder.

Lapworth volunteered to hang over the side, and untangle everything, dunking himself in the water. He could have just told me that it was my problem instead of diving in and helping.

Great job, and many thanks.

Hope the sail stayed intact.
I never heard of the term "bravo zulu". Any idea how it originated?
Thanks

I'm more into Bravo Sierra myself.

Sail is fine (thank God).

BZ is an international signal code, using the code flags. Just means well done.

Which means "Jesus Christ* where am I."

That's the funniest flag signal I've ever seen.
Thanks.

That should be the official signal flag set for the Figawi race around Nantucket...hilarious!
