website navigation - S-L-O-W

Navigating around this website is PAINFULLY SLOW. What's the problem?
I have Verizon FIOS and I don't have these issues with other websites I visit, just this one.
Did I say it's SLOW? Watching grass grow - slow.
Reminds me of the old dial-up days

Today is bad - I waited over 60 seconds for the main forum page to open and doing a simple "back" takes about 30 seconds to get from a post to the list page. I'm on a very fast corporate network but I am accessing Snailnet from Europe. I will have to see about getting some ad-blocking software installed to speed up page access.

Use FireFox, get Ad Block Plus for it...USE AD BLOCK PLUS...problem solved. It is the advertising sites that are the primary cause for slowing down this one.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

I hope the admins are listening...the cash cow is about to prove itself a goat if more people do this. But, considering the performance as of late, who can blame us...there are other sailing communities out there now. I'd love to stay loyal to Sailnet, but the recent performance is ridiculous.

I really like Sailnet. That said, I would have left long time ago if it were not for ABP.

+1 - I too would no longer be here without ABP.

I've been looking at the performance today and it always seems to be the "stats.ads.is/stats" link that the browser is waiting on.

If you are on sailnet and the web in general, this is a good combo.

AdblockPlus https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865/

I also use Flashblock, This is especially nice for those slower connections, it tends to cut out other trash that Adblock won't catch. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/433/

Then tweak FireFox further with these settings, sites load much faster after these changes are applied! Speed Up Firefox Really Fast!

I know my posting and readership on this site is way down because of the piss poor performance.

Sorry but I sense SN is not taking the forums very seriously and instead is in favor of a few pennies a day vs. happy members.. Just my .02 after waiting over two minutes just to get to the text box to type this..

It's getting REALLY pathetic but has been this way for MONTHS so I suspect no one cares..
