Diesel Problem: Glow Plugs in a Nanni (Mercedes)

I have a friend who has a Nanni (mercedes) 40 hp diesel which consumes/burns out the glow plugs routinely after 8-10 hours run time.
High pressure fuel pump and injectors are rebuilt to spec.

Any ideas how/why the glow plugs are dying so fast?
