Force 10 Cozy Cabin Diesel Heater Repair

My boat came equiped with an '80's vintage wall mounted Force 10 heater, now called a Cozy Cabin heater. The existing unit is designed to burn Kerosene or Diesel Fuel. The unit was clogged and repeated attempts to identify spare parts sources failed until this week.

I disassembled the unit with no instructions, later I found good directions on the West Marine website. My ham handed initial attempt damaged some internal parts causing a leak.

After disassembly of the unit I found out that the burner assembly was manufactured by Patria, a Portuguese company, now out of business. A company in England: base-camp.co.uk , which can supply spare parts for the burner!!

Also, after going through West Marine's instructions for disassembly of the unit I found that mine had a "surge protector" mounted below the burner unit which was the actual source of the clog.

Since it cost around $40 to replace the internals of the burner vs. over $300 and lots of time to retrofit it to propane the choice was easy. I hope this helps other folks with the same problem!
