yep. Although, I admit to being lax in my deployment of a cone while motorsailing, unless it is a passage lasting more than a couple of hours.

We use the anchor ball pretty much all the time, although if we are really tucked away where there is no traffic we sometimes don't.

Because Chesapeake Bay falls within inland waters, the steaming cone is not required for a vessel of our size.

Seventeen years ago the boat that got me off the lakes and ponds of Central Mass and onto NGBay came with both. I never used them, and I think..... I may have seen from 1 - 3 ?? anchor balls and maybe..... 1 ?? steaming cone in all those years in NGBay and beyond.

I have both (came with the boat) but I must admit that I do not use either. Rarely see balls in use, never see cones (saw one once I think)
