Any Newport 41 owners in the Bay Area?

Hi, I am looking to chat with people that know about the Newport 41. I am a new owner and would like some advice, maybe take a look at your boat, shoot the breeze, etc. PM me if you think you can help. Thanks
Chris

I grew up on a N-41, my dad bought it brand new in 1982 and we sailed it all over New England then latter I took it to Bermuda and Caribbean. I had it in my family for 23 years and put many thousands of miles under her seaworthy keel...SO MUCH FUN in heavy air. I sadly sold it in 2003 and lives in BC now. I can tell you anything you want to know about the N-41, we did lots of work/upgrades on her over the years and was an offshore ready vessel from 1994 on. I only wish I could find another on now that I am in the market again.... will most likely get a good C&C 40.

With a nice paint job and varnished bright work you will get complements on any harbor you pull into... beautiful classic lines!

Regards,
Adam

For that vintage it does look like a nice one... just 3,000 miles away from here. I shipped my 1982 N-41 cross country once, it was very costly(14 years ago) and would never do it again. The shipping would cost about half for what you can buy the boat for.

Lazy Lightning was a Newport 41 I owned for ten years. I sailed her down the coast of Mexico then to the South Pac, and then to Seattle where I sold her and got the Lazy Lightning II. We liked the 41 very much and still know a few other owners.

Bay Area Newport 41

I just got a Newport 41 too and I am keeping her in Alameda. Where are you? Mine was built 1969, model MkIIIa (hull #3). No frills, basically just a hull, lots to do.

FWIW, last year in heavy air a Newport 41 finished first overall (I think) in the FIGAWI race from Hyannis to Nantucket (about 200 boats).

Yes S/V "GREAT DAY" a N-41-S ... it original name was "Raison d'etre" I remember it was based at East Greenwich Yacht Club when I was a kid.

I know these boats quite well having raced on a couple and had one at my dock that I helped the owners maintain.

Talt to a real owner

I have owned one for 24 years, and i know several other owners in So Cal.
It is an excellent sailing boat. As for strength , I have shipped mine coast to coast twice on a truck , crossed the Gulf Stream 12 times. sailed successfullu upwind in 34 kts true and 7 foot seas . The boat was built to C&C spec and therefore was able to use C&C as a designer in their advertising
Some earlier hull numbers , (guessing under 10) may have had
some un reinforced forward sections. and I heard of some remote cases where mast step structure absorbed water. Yourself and any good surveyor can detect any specific issues
One thing all of these boats need is a rudder upgrade, That is the only one issue. Also, there has never been a keel bolt issue or a gap opening forward
or anywhere for that matter. As for sailing , forward decks stay dry and at anchor, no annoying butt slapping to keep you awake at night.

My boat rayed 93 and could sail it ,I was dinged 3 seconds a mile for my rudder
but that was worth it considering the improved control under spinnaker in heavier air. I recently sold mine ( the yellow one on ebay) but will be happy to answer questions,
I am also a real engineer not a wanna be
I have materials and structures background so if you get serious
you can private message me and we can talk on the phone.
There are some her who's opinions are just that , opinions , and need to be corrected
