USCG Re-Documenting ??

My boat was apparently USCG Documented at one time. I've got a number permanently carved into a bulkhead. However, I have no paperwork on it or history of the documentation. The boat dates 1965 so who knows when it was done.

Searching by number does not turn up anything:
Office of Science and Technology

Could having the number be a shortcut to continuing the documentation? Or do I need to start fresh?

I see plenty of services to do this for you, but it is not important enough for me to spend much money on.

Any advice?

The Documentation Center is really GOOD and FREE

If you make a phone call to the National Vessel Documentation Center a Documentation Officer will take you through it

If a dirty bottom slows you down what do you think it does to your boat

+ 1 for very Good Service from NVDC

Documented Vessels must be renewed every year. There's no cost for the renewal, you simply sign the form they send you and return it.

If you call the NVDC and give them the number and name of the vessel and the hailing port they should be able to retrieve the old documentation.
You will have to re-document, If I recall it's about $80.00....the paperwork is not that difficult...they will walk you though it and answer any questions.

Tommays, Thanks!

I just call the Documentation Center, and they were helpful. They looked up my number, and did have a very old record of it. So old, that it is not in their computer system, but in a paper file somewhere and they would need to seek it out. Anyway, they are sending em a packet with information and forms to get it all rolling. Thanks for your help.
