not sure which dept. of agr. to contact...

I have read on two different sites, this being one of them, that I must contact the Dept. of Agriculture for an import permit to take our dog to the Bahamas. The first time, I heard I needed to contact the US. Dept. and send $100 but then I heard it's the Bahamian Dept. of Agr. I needed to get an import permit from that would only cost $15. Any thoughts? My husband, two children and I are looking to start our sailing adventure later this year. Thanks!

Pet Import form: http://www.bahamas.com/sites/default...s_in_TIOTB.pdf It takes about 20 days to get the completed/approved form back from the Bahamas.

Thanks! Here's another one for you all: My husband is thinking that for safety reasons, one of us would have to stay on the boat with the dog while the other went onshore for supplies. Does this sound reasonable? Obviously, I'd much prefer it if we could go ashore together but don't know if it's foolish to leave the boat moored with our furry daughter aboard....

My dog went to puppy heaven last spring. I think the mast step wasn't secure enough.

I've sailed a few "dogs" over the years, but never taken one to the Bahamas.
