Morehead City, NC

My vacation plans are to sail the ICW in the Morehead City area and to include some ocean water as well. My little ship is a Spindrift-19. Any experience others can offer of this area would be appreciated.

I am not the final word but have sailed around Morehead City. The inlet from the Atlantic is treacherous with the wrong tide. The ICW is wide between the mainland and Bogue''s Sound but very shallow outside the narrow ICW channel. I have grounded a Hobie in there! If you can get out the inlet and behind Cape Lookout there is some water but not much. The other side of Morehead City on the west side of the bridges is the ICW heading North. Looks inviting but have never seen a sailboat outside the markers. It would be over an hour to get to Pamlico Sound, actually the Neuse River I guess, for great sailing close to Oriental.
