Bristol 31.1 stationary traveler

Help.

I'm considering purchasing a Bristol 31.1 and having not sailed with a stationary traveler before I'm interested in opinions/experience of how the lack of horizontal purchase affects the main sail's overall performance.

What is sacrificed or gained with these rigs?

Thanks.

Do you mean that the boat does not have a traveler and has just a fixed mainsheet? There's no such thing as a stationary traveler AFAIK.

It can affect your ability to control the angle of attack of the main sail, which can make de-powering the sail in heavier winds a bit more difficult.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Thanks Sailingdog.....................my contradiction in terms comes from not knowing what you call a fixed main. But yes, that's what I meant and thanks for your help.

Glad to help. Of course, you could always retrofit a traveler to the boat pretty easily.
