Sad Anniversary

Hard to believe it's been 35 years since the Edmund Fiztgerald went down. I remember the news reports as I was a spry 11 at the time. I believe they still light the Split Rock Lighthouse on this day in remembranace.

I saw the Discovery Channel show they did about the sinking too about 10(?) years ago, was very interesting to see all the theories.

It was a very sad situation. The sea is unmerciful. Stories like these make you respect the awesomeness of the oceans.

Just under 20 years ago when a lot more of my friends were into boats (As their families have grown a few are coming back), a bunch of us went across Rock Creek from our marina at the time to my present one (White Rocks). The fog was as thick as pea soup. Some of us had compasses, the ones who didn't just stuck close by. When we walked up the pier and entered the bar the band heard what we did and announced "This is for those crazy people who just came in their boats through the fog!" and they played "The Wreck Of The Edmund Fitzgerald".

Didn't mean to get off topic but it is a fond memory.
