Throwing it out there, my dad needs some canvas work
My dad is retired, but he needs to go back to work either full or part time because of the crappy economy. I'm not sure if it's even ok to post this here, if it is not please let me know or just delete the thread (no hard feelings of course ). He is looking for employment, but since he has a fully functioning shop at home he can do small to large projects (anything from a winch cover to full enclosures, boat covers etc).
He does beautiful work btw, he did my Alberg in traditional Pearl Grey (it's a sort of seafoam green, really classic stuff).
Here is the CL ad
::edited out by request, enjoy the thread though! It gets good.. ::
Thanks!

Can you post some pictures of the work he's done? Perhaps what he did on your boat. That might help everyone get an idea of his skill level.
Yes, the moderators might move this to a vendor category or something. They're a decent lot.
I have some winch covers that the previous owner stapled together with only the final stitching needed. Those would be easy to send to Annapolis.
Regards,
Brad

How' bout we follow the rules, hmmm?
COMMERCIAL INTERESTS AND ADVERTISING
1. No advertising is permitted on the forums. We define advertising as any offering of goods or services to our members or linking to sites where such offerings will be made in your interest. This site is supported by paid advertising. Should you wish to advertise to SailNet’s over 100,000 active members, please contact support@SailNet.com.
2. Some of the most helpful and knowledgeable members of our community are those who also are in a marine business. Due to the potential conflict of interest in your advice to members, we require that your on line signature disclose your commercial affiliation. (i.e. “Joe Sailor - President Cheap Sails Inc.”)
3. Even when your signature discloses your commercial interest you may NOT recommend your service on line or initiate threads about your business or solicit members via PM or E-mail. You MAY however respond to direct questions from other members about product or service specifics. “i.e. what do I hook the yellow wire on your transponder to?”
4. While SailNet employs “Spam Filters” and other methods to prevent and weed out most commercial posts, some folks are quite creative. We ask members to hit the “report post” button to notify the moderators of any post you feel is commercial in nature.
5. You may not insert a signature in your post promoting a commercial enterprises/website unless you are a Sailnet Advertiser.

Well, like I said in my op: I wasn't sure if this would be wrong to post here or not because my pops goal is to get hired somewhere, not promote a business of any sort (he doesn't have one to promote). If this needs to be deleted or moved, by all means please make it so. I was hoping a shop owner who might post here would see this and be interested in hiring my dad.
My dad is not in business, he is retired. His home workshop is not a commercial business of any sort. It's just one retired 69 year old guys home workshop in the middle of nowhere up in York, and that's all. He feels bad about even asking me to help him find some work honestly, he retired a few years ago and now has to resume work at his age due to the economy. Anyway, I would never in a million years want to step on any Sailnet vendors toes, and I am not trying to.

I'm going down to Heron later today, I will snap some good close up pics of his stitchwork, fabrication methods, etc, and post them either this evening or tomorrow. Shoot me a PM if you want me to PM them to you as well.

I understand your position, but the bottom line is you are advertising your father's services as a canvas maker (which in my book means he is not "retired".) There is no difference between that and me pimping my business here. Both scenarios clearly violate the SailNet rules. I hope your dad finds the work he is looking for, but if I can't advertise my business here, neither should he be able to (regardless of how casual that business might be.)

You know, anyone can make a technical argument against anything. Take for example a kids lemonade stand - One can argue that it is operating as an "illegal business" and infringing on the local businesses in the area that have to "follow the rules" while the lemonade stand does not. That's "unfair".
Would they be correct? Technically, yes. Is that sort of mentality the very core of what's wrong with people these days (imo)? Definitely.
Yes, part of your position is correct (in a manner of speaking). Is the reality of the situation as you portray it? Not at all. You can always PM a mod and request that this thread be deleted if it means so much to you. Hopefully though, acknowledging that your point you needed to make is partially correct will end this discussion and the thread will stay.
