Importing to the UAE, or other option
Hi all,

Mrs FirstSteps has decided that it's a good thing to take our boat to the United Arab Emirates for a couple of years.

I know we're only going to be there for a couple of years and I don't want to sell our pride and joy, but don't want to leave her languishing in an Australian marina either.

Has anyone imported a boat to the UAE before. Recommendations ?

Thanks in Advance .

SV FirstSteps

Technically, you're not importing the boat, but bringing the boat into the country temporarily, since you're not going to be there permanently. That may make a huge difference in the paperwork you have to do and what fees you have to pay. Importing the boat generally requires paying a VAT or import duty. Visiting boats don't have to pay that--but you will probably have to take the boat out of the UAE waters once in a while to be in compliance.
