Its one of those I'm not sure if I should, not sure if I shouldn't things. Ive painted everything from cars to motorcycles to houses I think if I research it enough it will work out with no peeling or problems.

Like painting anything, 95% of the work is in proper surface preparation. Do this, then the job will look great...don't do this then the job will look like crap and not last.

Seems to me that if you avoid painting the gelcoat, you avoid getting peeling later on.
I used it on my Catalina 27 and it held up for about 3 years. It took several applications, though, to completely fill the cracks. Once filled, then polished with rubbing compound and a couple coats of wax it looked great.
