Salsipuedes -> checkin with customs?

I'm planning a voyage from San Diego to Salsipuedes. I am wondering if I will need to check in with customs if I am not travelling to or past Ensenada, the nearest port of entry. Salsipuedes is just north of Ensenada. Anything I should be Leary of?
