Environmental Awareness; What are your views on the sea?

Hey guys and gals.

I am new here (as you probably can tell), and would like to request some help from each one of you out there.

I am a university student in Swansea (Wales), studying Environmental Conservation, 3rd year. I am doing a research project for my 3rd year dissertation that is looking at the Marine Environment, and focussing on the views and awareness of certain watersport users. The collection of the data obviously requires me to find people who use the marine environment, and to collect their views.

I agree with WanderingStar. These are nuanced issues and the questions do not allow the taker to provide the kind of subtle answers that explain their point of view.

The study aims to focus on what people consider to be most important issue regarding the sea. I intend to compare different user groups, to determine interest and importance. Whilst also with one of the questions to determine a small level of understanding.

I completed a pilot study and found that overall, these were the best questions available to me. Though, as you know. not perfect.

I also agree with the others who are saying your questions miss too many nuances. I realize it is probably too late for you to change the questions, but I thought I'd provide some detailed feedback anyways:

Under question 5 you list energy production and oil/gas extraction... the latter would seem to be a subset of the former. In question 6, you're actually asking two questions: what are the long term environmental impacts, and what are the long term political/economic impacts. The second part of question 7 is again two questions (Fishing is vital -- agree; we should continue fishing at current rate -- disagree). Question 9 is a leading question because it assumes that politicians acting is a good thing, something I strongly disagree with.

I mean no offense, this is just my $0.02. I hope your project goes well.

What about the total pollution of the Sea's from WWI & WWII .

I agree ith the prior posters. Your questions are way too general and are vague. You will get some data but not much useful information. The questions need to be more probing such as "why is this important?"

I didn't find anything confusing about the questions - people are important for the good they do and the bad and deciding which is more important isn't hard.

The damage done by the world wars mentioned is water under the bridge - time to look forward, what is done is done.
