First sail of the year...

2011's first sail took me 7 days. Embarrassing.

20 knots + J22 = exciting, and a little damp.

Make sure the reefing line is tied securely so your reef doesn't shake itself out.

If your reef does shake itself out, don't assume the cleat slipped... If you assume the cleat slipped, you'll just pull the reefing line into the boom and force yourself to pinch and feather all day, thereby increasing the level of exciting. Oops.

I've had bowlines shake themselves loose on jib sheets, but never on a reefing line. Lesson learned.

Actually last Sunday was a great day to be out on the Chesapeake Day. Hitting 8 knots on a 1967 S&S Chris Craft Apache 37 sloop out of the West River , was very exhilarating.

We were out New Years Eve overnight, so managed our first log entry for 2011 in New Year's Day! A pleasant, coolish day with little breeze, but still, day 1 on Day one... not so bad.

Very nice. Glad to see folks sailing year round. I sailed last on Christmas Day. Hopefully next weekend.

Went out yesterday, what a fantastic day on the water. Cold with a biting northerly. New sail buddy out with me, spent about 3 hours roaring around at between 5 and 7 knots, grinning like idiots every time we got the rail wet
