Queensland floods

For those who haven't heard Brisbane the 3rd largest city in Australia and the capital of Queensland is in the middle of a 'once in a hundred years' flood. Other areas of Queensland have already been decimated by flood waters in the past days. Currently 12 are dead and about 50 people are missing with the situation set to worsen over the next 24 hours.

Queensland is also our most popular cruising ground in Australia, and sadly quite ironically this time of year a large portion of the cruising community shelter in spots such as the Brisbane river to escape the cyclone activity further north.

Other than the great toll in terms of loss of life, and the fact that one of our major cities is currently under water with significant damage to 10 000's of people's homes, there have also been a huge numbers of boats breaking from their moorings and going aground and pontoons/wharfs being overwhelmed and destroyed.

We do have a few sailnet members in this part of the world, guys you're in our thoughts and prayers.

I've been watching it closely, truly a disaster for all involved. Best wishes.
My son and family are supposed to fly out of Brisbane today, if they can get to the airport.

We've been getting pretty good coverage of the flooding locally... truly horrific. Our thoughts go to all those affected.

What stands out to me is that nearly every individual interviewed for the news clips is still laughing, making the best of a bad situation. You're a hardy lot, you Aussies! Hang in there!

We're watching this from Auckland and it's really bad, being referred to as an "inland tsunami". Hope it ends soon. As we watch Sky News this morning it seems like water levels are starting to slowly fall.

We all hope it ends soon.
