Anyone using a Washing Machine on the hook?

In trying to make life easier, I'm thinking about getting a miniature clothes washer. Does anyone have one on board? Any idea how many amp hours they use for a load of clothes?

Regards,
Brad

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

The only boat I have seen with electric laundry facilities was a Hunter 45 CC.

This model is 0 amps

And comes with instructions

Columbus Washboard Company

It is also multi purpose.

If a dirty bottom slows you down what do you think it does to your boat

It certainly is not! It just doesn't draw from the starter bank, so as long as you have enough energy left to turn a key and push a button, you're probably safe running this system all night.

On a more serious note, why not get one of these?

Haier HWD1500 13.2 lb Capacity Ventless Front Load Washer / Dryer Combo in White

If you have a dock nearby where you can get shore power, it might be worth motoring over.

Sequitur is on a distinguished road
Many of the boats we see out here cruising have washing machines. Sequitur has a Splendide washer/dryer combo that draws very little electricity on wash-only, and the 522 Watt solar array and the D-400 wind generator keep-up with both it and the watermaker easily.

The cockpit serves as a great drying room, but when we have full batteries we use the electric dryer; it certainly is nice to have fluffy, fresh towels and bedding and table linen.

Head to warmer climes - Sail Naked. No laundry. Easy and fun solution to a difficult problem. Get rid of those pesky tan lines as well as the clothes lines.

Would love to, but that's not a real option right now. My wife and I are still 15 years away from cruising full time!!

But we all spend 2 straight months on the boat each summer. Well, except for me since I have to work.

Brad
