Question Another cruising with pets question.

For those of you who cruise with a dog, how do you get around quarantine at foreign ports?

-Are you OK as long as your dog stays on the boat?
-Do you just not take your pets if you are leaving the US?

Sorry if someone has answered this already. I have been wondering this for a while and don't remember seeing it anywhere.

I'm still in my planning stages of moving aboard in a few years, but don't want to get a dog if I couldn't take it with me.

You're really far better off not taking pets with you, especially if you're making longer bluewater passages. The quarantine restrictions on dogs are pretty severe in most countries.

If you're just island hopping through the Caribbean, then it might be okay, since you can get a pet "passport" that is valid for many of those countries and the passages are relatively short.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Actually you need both a small dog and a cat.
The dog trained to sit on the bow in restricted weax and bark his/her head off as a fog warning system.
The Cat will take care of any vermin that somehow gets on board.
There you have it. Restricted visibility warning system and vermin control system and both will snuggle up to you in cold weax and keep your feet warm.
