If a dirty bottom slows you down what do you think it does to your boat

The systems DO NOT COME with a performance guarantee...that should pretty much say everything about how well they work.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Over the years, there have been many threads on many sailing forums about many ultrasonic anti fouling systems. To my knowledge, there has yet to be a system that has been shown to be effective. What you get is a lot of anecdotes and, "My neighbor's brother's garbageman's uncle swears this the best thing since sliced bread" but zero real world evidence of a system that works in a variety of conditions.

Electronic, ultrasonic antifouling is NOT "new". People have been trying to make and sell these kinds of machines for at least 15 years. The fact that none of them--not a single one!--has caught on and been widely used should tell you all that you need to know about them, for now.

I would dearly love to see someone invent one that can be proven to be an effective way to control fouling. When someone does, I'll be one of the first on the band-wagon. At this point, though, they all base their claims on vague and anecdotal evidence.

If any of these products actually worked worth a damn, you'd think they'd offer a good guarantee of performance to entice people to try them. None have...none will.

Check out the Wavetrain blog for some current testing ...

ANTI-FOULING PORN: Preliminary Ultrasonic Results

Sounds encouraging but expensive. And I don't have a metal boat ...

I just finished reading an article about them, and there were some critical issues with electrode placement. With most boats you'll need more than a single electrode, and the only thing they claimed to repel was live critters--not algae, mud and slime, all of which will slow your boat to a crawl. Some of the new anti-fouling paints I recently read about in Practical Sailor did solve the problem with algae, slime and other forms of bottom crud, plus kept the critters at bay. And, the longevity of the paint(s) seems to have improved dramatically during the past few years.
