Best time in Spring to cross Gulf of Mexico

Planning a man trip across the Gulf this Spring aboard our 36' C&C 110, from Texas to Charlotte Harbor, FL then south to Key West. What's the best time (month) to do it? Late March? Then will sail home from Key West well before hurricane season begins.

I suggest you take a look at the Pilot Charts for the Gulf, available at Maritime Safety Information .

Generally, slow moving Lows north of the coast (and your route) will give you the most favorable winds.

April, May, or early June should give you decent weather before "H" season starts in earnest. Late March should be doable too.
