Downsizing Suggestions
I sail a one design Tartan Ten (33') on a large inland southeastern Lake and plan to retire soon to a lake house in Florida. The Florida lake is about 5 miles in diameter and shallow, so I need to keep my draft 4 feet or less. I do a lot of single handed sailing so I need something less than 24 feet.
I have been looking around at daysailers like the Quickstep 24, Pearson Ensign, Sea Sprite 23 and some of the other older, New England full keel boats. I have also looked at newer designs like the Capri 22, Harbor 20, Santana 20, Ranger 22, Holder 20 and their ilk. The old style full keels seem to be dogs, with PHRF's around 250, which will be a bummer for a retiring T-10 skipper.
So I am probably looking for the impossible, a daysailer that has a large cockpit and can get around in a drifter, yet with enough stability to make it through a blow. Its got to have some speed, but not so tender that a old-timer can't make it back to port in a blow.
I was hoping to find some youngster wanting to move up from their current boat to a T-10.
