1958 S&S sloop/supposedly Fastnet built

I have just purchased a used 1958 S&S sloop built in Norway. The boat was supposedly built for the Fastnet Races and is rumored to have won that race twice. The main sheet blocks are in the middle of the cockpit deck, not for cruising convenience. I am having the boat completely restored (this time by a firm that has a history of being one of the best wooden boat restorers on the Great Lakes. Can anyone tell me anything about this boat? Or similar boats?

It would really help if you said what the name of the boat is, or was at the time it was racing in the Fastnet. I'm willing to bet there were a lot of S&S sloops built in the late 1950s. Saying where the boat was supposedly built, and by whom, if you know either, would be a good idea. Also, it would probably be a good idea to say what the LOA of the boat is at a minimum, since S&S designed a lot of different boats, in many different sizes.

I'd highly recommend you READ THE POST in my signature, so as to get a bit more information on how to get the most of your time on Sailnet.

Generally, the more specific and relevant information you give regarding a question, the better off you will be and the better quality answers you'll get. As it is, your question is basically so vague as to be unanswerable.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Here's a list of S&S winners after 1958 - no two timers here but you could have meant division or class winners.

In the past I have received details on S&S designs direct from Sparkmen & Stephens via email, including hull & sail plans, etc. Probably help if you know what S&S design you are refering to (there are over 2,000). Their website is below.

You may want to visit this site as well :

Sparkman & Stephens Association

It's the owner's association. Where on the lakes are you and who is doing the restoration? (BTDT)
