New England Boat Show - Who's Going?

I will be working the Boston Boat Show on Feb 26th & 27th, at least, and possibly Fri the 25th too. It's always good to put names to faces so please stop by and say hello!

I will bring a few cases of Bed-It Butyl Tape with me also so you guys who attend could save on S&H charges if you are interested (have already had requests from some members).

I will be working in the Mobile Marine Canvas booth #820.

That show's a bit of a joke but I'll probably go if I get a free ticket from someone I know in the business.

The Boston Fall Boat Show is a joke, but the New England Boat Show (the one Mainesail meant) is quite a big show, at least in my limited experience. I don't know of anything larger within driving distance.

I'll be there either the 26th or 27th. I'll stop by and say hi.

Nope, I know exactly which one he's referring to. I've been just about every year that I've lived in Boston. As for other shows, the Newport in-water show in September is probably the only truly good boatshow in the New England region. Boston, as is common of the second rate indoor shows is mostly a downmarket affair with small stinkpots outnumbering sailboats 20 to 1 and on top of that, the sailboats that are there are almost exclusively of the Benehuntalina marina queen style. It's fun to go and have a few beers, socialize and walk around for an hour, occasionally one of the booths will have something of value, but for the more experienced or discerning types, there's nothing to be gained other than a decent buzz.

MS, are you doing the Maine boatbuilders show again this year?

That is really the only show I go to. Although I may try and get to annapolis in the fall.

Have you ever been to either the August Maine Boats Homes and Harbors magazine show in Rockland ME or the March Maine Boatbuilders show in Portland ME? They are both very good shows. It's been a while since I've been to the Newport show but you'll see some quality work on both sail and power boats, new and restoration at the Rockland and Portland shows that you won't see most anywhere else.

I don't know when you moved, but for the past 3 years this show has been hosted at the BCEC


I KNOW that one broker/dealer will have a Jenneau Sun Odyssey 409

a Catalina 355


an Island Packet Estero


and a Harbor 20


All of these should be fully rigged, and on the floor of the show.

There are usually 2 or 3 broker/dealers that attend and can support this kind of display. Admittedly, it isn't the Newport or Miami Boat show. However for Boston (12ş last night) in late February/March, it isn't bad.

Maine - I will attend, but don't know which day. I will make a point of stopping by.

I'll be there on Saturday the 26th. I actually have some money this year, so who knows, could end up buying some wind instruments if I can find a deal.
