Quick naming question

For a proper naming ceremony, must the boat be in the water at the time?

The boat is 15 years old, has sailed thousands of times, many with us last year, but has never been named. So technically, its not a christening, but just a naming ceremony.

(its a 15 foot Precision that is moored on a trailer when not in use)

It would be easier to gather friends (and legal to pour the rum, as EtOH is contraband at the local state park lake) if we gathered in the yard at home.

thanks!

RichH will become famous soon enough
I'd risk getting fined for the EtOH possession as the alternative is to have a 'virgin' peepee on the bow.
(Where does one even begin to find a 'virgin' these days?)

Hmm...depending on the ritual, it's difficult to give your offering to Poseidon, and the four winds, in your back yard...

I'd recommend a naming party somewhere convenient, and a naming ceremony in the water....

yeah, that's the conclusion I'm coming too as well. Some things just have to be done right....or not at all.
