phyrefighterjay is on a distinguished road
I am thinking of selling my Mac 26x

For sale is Mac 26x project boat, ser # MACX0028G596. $4000 obo.
This is a great opportunity to own a mac 26x at a low price…you will get what you pay for, so be ready to do some work. This boat will need some fiberglass work and some other types of caulking and such. It is a PROJECT BOAT.
Colorado does not require boats to have a title…we have valid Colorado registration.
The trailer has registration (not current) and Colorado plates.
The photos were taken with the boat completely stripped…no cushions, no interior hatches…we have these items. The cushions need cleaning and some of the hatches are in good shape, or can be replaced easily. We did this to find out if there was any more damage than what we inherited. We found no more. I am the third owner of the boat. The boat spent most of its life on the reservoirs of Idaho. Then it went down to Texas where it was in salt water for a half a year. The boat got tossed around in a storm. We have never put this boat in the water.
The Good:
Well good and bad for this first one…..Running 50hp Mercury 2 stroke…starts great, idles great, shifts great, cold choke works, but when I try to rev it up… it will sustain rev for about 7 seconds and then starts to die…if I don’t throw the throttle back to idle then it dies…we live at 8500 feet and the boat came from sea level I am thinking that it’s carbs need to be re-jetted for altitude. It has a plastic replacement prop on it currently…there is a large chip out of the horizontal fin of the motor…this can be corrected with a whale tail or other horizontal stabilizer.
Comes with Mainmast (looks to be in good shape)
Has the fancy cockpit seat cushions that are always on sale in ebay for $300-$400
Re-built mac trailer, these trailers were underbuilt and had axle breakage problems…we re-built this trailer with brand new tires…new springs and axle that will support 5500 lbs. We also had the tongue replaced…the trailer may be rusty but it is functionally sound. The lights are a set of new (simple) set of lights from wal mart, but I think that you will have to get the right set for the trailer size.
The Bad: (there is a lot of bad…but this IS a project boat.)
The hole in the bottom…quoted $500-$600 to fix…This boat will float in its current state. It just can’t be sailed because the water will not stay in the ballast tank when the boat moves forward. The boat got pushed on a pylon and there is a large hole directly into the water ballast tank. This was a lucky miss..Because if it would have been a hit into both the tank and the boat’s interior liner…then the boat would be unusable. If you have to get quotes from your local repair shop…tell them that the hole had to be “worked from the outside” of the hull.
There is no spinnaker or furler.
There is only one mainsail that comes with the boat, but I don’t know if you can trust it…so figure on new sails.
There has been a lot of fiberglass work that has been done on the top deck…it’s structurally sound, but does not look the greatest. This boat has some fading that can be brought back and of course stress cracks. The rub rail all the way around the boat should be replaced….two tubes of caulk should help with the rest. I don’t know if the stove or toilet work, they are simple mechanisms so they can either be fixed or repaired easily, there is no bilge pump in the boat. The wiring is simple, and could be figured out pretty easily, the only wiring that we used is was when we started the engine and when we tried the tilt and trim…which works fine.
The rudders and linkage are in good shape…the steering turns just fine. I would think that for a few thousand dollars and some elbow grease…you got a $10-$12,000 boat.
My wife and I purchased this boat in 2009 and are looking for some capital for our growing business…most of all when we sell something we believe in full disclosure of the item’s good points and bad points. If you would like to make an offer…you name will go on the offer sheet, we will include it on the offer sheet. I know that it will sell quickly…you could part out the boat, donate the hull and make back your money. Call us if you have any questions at all…once again, it’s a project boat.

CalebD will become famous soon enough
Pictures of the boat and fiberglass work needed would help.
