Open Source Sailboat Racing Program?

Hey everyone,

I'd like to revitalize our local club racing scene. But to do that, I'd like to get a bit more professional with tracking our racing times and results. However, as with everyone, we are tightening our belt and cannot use some pay program that does all the work.

So, with that, is anyone aware of a freeware or open source application or spreadsheet that does race time management (actual time, adjusted time based on ratings, etc, etc).

Thanks all!

Sailwave - Windows Sailing Regatta Scoring Results Software Program

WOrld wide used, has a google email question and answer. Not sure HOW many handicap programs built in, I know PHRF TOD and TOT, along with a way to adjust the TOT based on wind speeds. IRC, IMS, IOR, MORC....to name a few handicaps preprogramed.

WOlrd cup events, NOOD, Nationals, from optis to F40's etc use this.

Best part, its FREE! altho they do ask for donations, If your club has a few bucks, send something to Malcolm.

You may want to try Notice of Race: Scoring Sailboat Races, Regattas and More

It has many of the features of desktop software, plus a few more advantages:

Already on the web and allows users to register themselves .

Competitors can upload all of their boat’s information once, and can use it over and over when they register for yours, or other events on the site.

Allows race organizers to promote races to their region, not just their club members.

Pictures, race summaries, and supporting documentation can all be uploaded about events.

Handles scoring of one design, PHRF Time on distance, Time on Time.

It also calculates series results, and you can even create
”championship” results to determine seasonal titles, and much more.

The best part is that the majority of features are free for both the competitors and the event organizers

Feel free to give it a try. Notice of Race: Scoring Sailboat Races, Regattas and More

We researched this earlier in this past Winter, and were directed to "Sailwave". It is a free race scoring software system, developed by an English techie a good while back. He still is active in keeping it current, and there is a solid group of adherents (several thousand??) who work to resolve any issues that arise. It is used worldwide for events like Canadian Olympic Training regattas and ISAF championships, along with handicap regattas with 70 or more entrants. We applied it to our last year's results and saw that it totally eliminated computational errors AND enabled us to use Time on Time handicaps, which we felt might help boost participation. We are looking for a laptop with wifi to carry on the RC boat so that we will be able to post results on the club website and have a printout BEFORE we're back on the mooring. (Sailwave supports a variety of output options.) To us, this looks like a good way to introduce our Race Committee to the 20th Century.
