Should I stay or should I go

I am planning a trip to The Abacos in early Sept. I am getting very different opinions as to whether I should go as it is hurricane season. My plan is to sail directly from Lake Worth and make the 10hr. sail across the stream. I certainly will not go if the weather seems challenging. What are your opinions on going. If the weather is good, should I just go or should I be continually concerned because it is "hurricane season".

Its not just hurricane season, its the middle of the worst part of hurricane season and this year is projected to be a bad one. Does your insurance cover you that time of year in that part of the world? Most don''t.

Stay put. If the winds do come, the gulfstream will be very bad to cross. The hurricane holes are not that great--all land is too low. Sept is the worst time and in a bad year.
OTOH, if you go, please give me the particulars, so I can buy some life insurance on your life--with me as beneficiary.

Thanks for all of the advice. It seems as though I will not venture out in Sept. As far as my beneficiary, if I do go; That would be Denr. He would get my two cents, since he obviously is good at giving it out.

Of course, my recommendation to go sailing in the face of a hurricane was made in jest. Any prudent skipper would do as you did, ask questions, gather local knowledge and consult the pilot charts for prevailing wind and wave conditions. Does this mean that I don''t get the cash?
