A taste of things to come
<object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value=""><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></object>

if this works, it should be video of Sunday sailing.

The handsome fellow in the brown sweatshirt is the owner, the rest of the motley crew was drawn from the WoodenBoat forum with promises of beer and burgers.

Was that yesterday, with the warm air blasting up from the south?

Very nice WS!

Now, I've got a question on your sail trim...since everyone always hammers me on my crappy trim when I post a pic, I'm trying to learn....

It looks like you're on a "fat" beam reach? When I'm on a similar point in my C27 with a fresh breeze (15+) I'll see the same luffing in my main that you've got in the vid. What should I do to trim for that...traveller up/down, a lot of vang, etc?

It looks like yours is a ketch, so maybe this doesn't apply as much to you as it does to me on a sloop - but I'm just curious.

Nice looking day... 3 deg C and raining hard all day yesterday here...

Nice Vid!

Thanks guys, the video was shot on Sunday, upper 50s ashore, gusty WNW varying from moderate to gentle with fresh puffs.
Smack, the luffing was probably caused by a shift, as Bill is an excellent helmsman. I have no traveller, and no vang. the only sail controls are outhaul, sheet and halyard. Old school.

Thanks Star. Believe me, I'm not hassling you or Bill by any means - I'm just trying to figure out how to deal with the same thing on my boat - and whether that's just part of sailing on a beam reach in a gusty breeze.

Hi John,

Nice vid, I'm jealous.

I just received my bill from the Old Man for the mooring drop. So the season must be close by. I'm doing too much traveling in April, so my boat won't get wet until May.
