When we were in the Caribbean we used as many NWS sites as possible, the source of most all weather, and updated every 6 hours. Sometimes all we could get is a SSB radio broadcast. I kept a weather log and compared forecast changes as the intended sailing time approached. This was also a way to determine the accuracy of forecasts. The desired "window of good weather" that worked for us was about 24 hours more than we needed. You can pick the weather you leave in.

I use the site I built for sailors: L-36 Weather and Tide Everything on one page, free. Check it out. Includes tides and local observations too.

Quite a few Caribbean cruisers like me rely on windguru .

I have no statistics but the accuracy seems pretty good.

BTW it is pissing it down in Bequia just now, had to bail the dink three times in 24 hours, I reckon at least 6 inches of rain.

Weather prediction is a very tough. In our area you can predict wind direction most of the time but go to the ICW and all bets are off . The effects of land and ocean make it impossible. Also the Gulf stream and coastal winds throw in another twist. What works for us wont work in Ga or NC ect ect . Try NOAA on your VHF radio. They are close most of the time and almost 100% with emergency weather warnings.

Nice, Wish I had something like that and internet aboard when in Caribbean. All we had was SSB voice and some weak WeFax. Tides were not significant most everywhere.

I have used Intellicast - Great Sailing in the past and have been pretty satisfied with their forecasts. One feature they have that I haven't seen elsewhere is a color coded map that takes several variables into account, wind speed and direction, temperature, precipitation, etc. When your spot on the map is bright blue it is a good time to go sailing. It is a little find some of the individual forecasts, e.g. wind speed and direction, but you just have to go to the menu at the top and click on 'Forecast' to see the map with different forecast data overlaid on it.
