Finally getting out....

So I was at my Celestial Nav class last night and I was talking to one of the other instructors about getting out. He was out the day before with a class in beautiful conditions. He said he was doing a refresher for someone today and I jokingly asked if he needed any help. He said "Sure, can always use an extra set of hands.". Talked to the boss this morning, didn't even have to beg like a 4 year old, and she said I could take a half day.

Conditions are supposed to be about 63 degrees for a temp, mostly sunny, and winds about 15 or 16. Will be sailing the O'Day 28 the club has. Hopefully it will count as my check ride too. I know, just a lake sail but hey, I am finally getting out and its going to be a great day!

It was a bit gusty at times, had a few pushing 30 but for the most part it was a great sail. Winds were around 15-20 and the O'Day 28 handled it all quite nicely. Had the lake to ourselves as everyone one else was at work. Well now we just need the weather to "stabilize" and we can get on with our season.

Very nice cb! What was your sail configuration? And how was the helm?

I've sailed an O'Day 28 a couple of times - but not in anything over 15.

Helm was very responsive and the boat sailed smooth. We started with a single reef and then added the second. Not much chop but then again, it was a lake. I was basically a crew guy as the guy who actually paid was getting the learnin'.
