Bad Depth with Chart Plotter E80-Navionics. Help!

Hi Everybody,

I am having a problem with the Raymarine E80 chart plotter. When I use it with the Navionics Platinum, the depths are totally out of whack. I can see the ST unit and the paper charts coincide, but the chart plotter gives me a totally different number.

For example, around the Verrazano Bridge, where the sounder and paper chart indicate 80 feet, I get 15 feet in the chart plotter. I checked the units and measurements settings, and I confirmed that the plotter was set to feet. I tried the other units (meters and fathoms) and it also gives me erroneous depths.

Am I missing another setting? I am new with this equipment, so I would really appreciate your help/input.

Thanks!

I just looked at the E-80 to try and determine if I could figure out what was wrong. I'm working blind on this one because I have a Lowrance, but the basics are similar.

First and foremost, are you using their depth finder, or are you using another device?

Next, there is a neat feature that allows you to use the cursor, which on Lowrance looks like the cross-hairs of a rifle scope. If this is visible then you are not looking at your current position, but instead, looking at the information from the location where the cross hairs have been sent. To get out of this mode, you must press the Exit button until the cross-hairs disappear from the screen. At this point you should see the triangular icon that represents your boat's current position on the chart.

Hope this helps,

Gary
