roller furler question

How do you take the jib off the roller furler? My jib needs to go in for repair.

What kind of furler?
On my Schaeffer you unfurl the sail, release the lower shackle, ease the halyard while guiding the bolt rope out of the track. Remove the upper shackle and you are golden.

It's most likely either a CDI or a furlex. Looking at pics, it looks like a CDI

No matter what it is, it should basically require the process silvio describes. Once you unfurl it, it should be fairly obvious. The trick is to do it in very light wind if possible.

And have at least one large sail tie handy.

Ask me how I know this!

rockDAWG 05-13-2011 07:28 PM

Oh yeah, make sure you stand on the windward side.

Ask me how I know this! :p

If it's a CDI tie on a messenger line to the halyard or you'll loose the halyard up the foil.
