Ignition Yanmar 2GM

I just purchased a 1974 Ericson 29 with a Yanmar 2GM. Is the ignition (push button) wired so the that the blower must be on?

Diesels do not have ignition and do not require blowers. The push button causes the starter to turn the engine over. Compression and heat cause the fuel to burn.
I would suggest that it might be worthwhile to read up on diesel engines a bit. Yanmars are, in my experience, very dependable but you need to do the basics such as keeping your fuel filters clean and making sure you get quality fuel.

Good Luck

Suspect the boat was repowered from a gas engine (Atomic 4?) at some point. Diesel doesn't require the blower.

The blower is used to take heat out of the engine compartment and surrounding areas. Unless you want to warm up your boat and possible encounter issues due to excessive heat I'd keep it so it runs when the engine is on.

Agree with MJBrown... while diesels do not really require the blower like a gas engine does, having one left over from a repower, or adding one, is a good idea as it an remove residual heat and smell of a running diesel.

Recent Beneteaus have installed a blower that runs whenever the engine runs on their diesel powered boats. I'm considering adding one to our boat too.

While not required I believe most builders put blowers on diesel powered boats, I know Catalina does and always has to best of my knowledge. While usually powered by the same circuit as the instrument panel it doesn't need to be on to start the engine. Is that the OP's question or am I confused again?
The 70's Ericson did not come with a diesel so this blower is probably from the A4 and could be wired whatever way looked good when it was repowered.
